Benefits of using honey | Face Masks | When not to use
Honey is an incredible ingredient that can do wonders for your skin and the reputation and credibility of Honey as a magic potion for the overall external and internal health of the body has remained unwavering.
What are the Benefits of Honey for Skin and Face?
Honey, especially unpasteurized raw honey and Manuka honey, is considered excellent not only for your health but also for topical application.

Face Masks
1.Just Honey
The enzymes present in Honey enable it to easily seep into the skin while conditioning it and softening it from deep within.
You will need:
- Honey
Use one spoon of honey on clean, dry skin, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. It will serve as a perfect moisturizing mask.
How often:
As per convenience or a minimum of 3-4 times a week.

2.Honey and Coconut oil/ Jojoba oil
Honey contains antioxidants, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties, it helps to rid your skin of blackheads by removing dirt from pores. It then hydrates and tightens skin pores for a clear complexion. However, it does not suit all skin types, especially oily skin type, and may aggravate acne.
You will need:
- Honey
- Coconut oil or jojoba oil
- Try mixing one spoon raw honey with two spoons jojoba oil or coconut oil.
- Apply to clean, dry skin, and massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area.
- Rinse with cold water. This mask will act as a pore cleanser.
How often:
2 times a week.
3.Honey and Baking soda
Honey helps exfoliate your face & skin by gently removing the dead skin cells. This in turn also leaves your face with a brighter complexion.
You will need:
- Honey
- Baking Soda
- Mix two spoons honey with one spoon baking soda.
- Splash your skin with water, and then gently rub the concoction on your face or body in a circular motion. Rinse well.
How often:
Once a week.
4.Honey and Lemon
Lemon juice naturally contains vitamin C, an antioxidant that may help reduce skin damage and premature aging. This face mask can help control acne breakouts.
You will need:
- The juice from half a lemon
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- Mix the lemon juice with the honey until you get a smooth mixture.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for about 20 minutes.
- Wash it off with warm water, followed by cool water. Pat your face dry with a towel.
Note: Use this mask only when you are not going to be spending the rest of the day in the sun.
How often:
Once a week.
5.Honey and Cinnamon
A mixture of raw honey and cinnamon is a powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial combination.
You will need:
- A pinch of cinnamon powder
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Mix cinnamon powder and honey.
- Apply the mixture to the acne spots.
- Leave the mixture on for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Rinse off completely using warm water and pat your skin dry.
Note: Cinnamon may cause minor skin irritation, which is common. However, ensure you do a patch test before using it on your skin.
How often:
1-2 times a week.
6.Honey and Tomato
Tomatoes contain lycopene. Topical lycopene is an effective antioxidant and can prevent cell damage by inhibiting free radicals. Together with honey, tomato can keep your skin healthy.
You will need:
- 1/2 ripe tomato
- 1 tablepsoon raw honey
- Puree the tomato in a blender until it is free of lumps. Add honey to the puree and mix well.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mask on for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Pat your face dry with a towel.
How often:
2 times a week.
7.Honey and Banana
Banana is a common ingredient used in face masks and is said to have a moisturizing effect on the skin. It is also an excellent base for any DIY face mask. Together with honey and lemon, this face mask can help keep your skin clear and Moisturized.
You will need:
- 1/2 ripe banana
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- Mash the banana, add the honey and lemon juice to the mashed banana.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the sensitive skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for about 10-15 minutes.
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.
How often:
Once a week.
8.Honey and Gram flour
Gram flour helps to cleanse the skin and exfoliate it. It also helps to reduce excessive oil and tanning. This face mask can give you a clear complexion with regular use.
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons gram flour
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Water as needed
- Combine the honey and besan. Add some water and mix well to get a smooth and consistent paste.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for about 30 minutes.
- Rinse the mixture off with lukewarm water. Pat dry with a towel.
How often:
3 times a week.
9.Honey and Curd/yogurt

- 2 tablespoons curd/yogurt
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- Combine the ingredients to get a smooth mixture.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry.
- Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes.
- Wash the mixture off with lukewarm water. Pat your face dry with a towel.
How often:
2 times a week.
10.Honey and Turmeric
Turmeric has been used since ancient times for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. This combination can keep your skin clear, soothe acne breakouts, and brighten your skin.
You will need:
- A tablespoon raw honey
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon yogurt/curd
- Combine the ingredients until you get a smooth mixture.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry.
- Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes. Leave the mixture on for about 20 minutes.
- Rinse the mixture off with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser.
Pat your face dry with a towel.

11.Honey and Rosewater
Rosewater is a natural beauty elixir that can treat winter dryness, dullness, acne, puffiness, sunburn and so much more. Use it as cleanser, toner, moisturiser, or add it your face pack, as a part of your beauty regime, and the difference will be a there to see in a matter of weeks.
You will need:
- 2 teaspoons rosewater
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Combine the ingredients until you get a smooth mixture.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry.
- Apply this mixture onto your face. Make sure to avoid the fragile skin around your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes.
- Rinse the mixture off with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. Pat your face dry with a towel.
How often:
2 times a week.
12.Honey and Sugar Scrub
The coarse texture of the sugar and honey scrub helps buff away all the dead cells on your skin’s surface. This helps keep your skin healthy and free of build-up. The scrub also readies your face for absorbing moisture and nutrients, so it would be a good idea to follow this up with a moisturizing and nourishing face mask or just moisturizing your face with a good moisturizer.
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon olive oil or coconut oil or almond oil or avocado oil or jojoba oil
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Combine the ingredients to get a coarse mixture.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser.
- Apply the mixture to your face and gently scrub your skin in circular motions with your fingertips. Do this for a couple of minutes.
- Wash your face with warm water, followed by cold water. Pat dry with a towel.
How often:
2-3 times a week.
13.Honey and Avocado(Butterfruit)
This homemade Avocado, Lemon & Honey Face Mask is an inexpensive indulgence, a great way to moisturize & clean out those pores & keep your pretty face glowing!
You will need:
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1 tablespoon pure honey
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice(Optional)
- Wash your face with warm water to remove any excess oils & makeup.
- Mash avocado in a bowl with the back of a fork. Mix in honey & lemon juice.
- Apply to your clean face with a makeup brush or fingers. Let sit for about 20 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly. Follow with your usual skincare regime.
How often:
2-3 times a week
14.Honey and oatmeal
Oatmeal face masks are very popular because of their cleansing, exfoliant, and moisturizing properties. They’re an excellent homemade remedy that can make your skin feel soft, smooth, healthy and radiant.
You will need:
- 3 tablespoons ground oats
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- First, take 3 tablespoons of ground oats, add milk to it and mix well.
- Then add 1 tablespoon honey to it and make it into a paste.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser.
- Apply the mixture to your face and massage for 5 minutes and leave it on for another 10-15 minutes.
- Using cool water, gently wash the face mask off. Be sure to use the same circular, massaging motions that you used to put the mask on.
- Follow up with a moisturizer.
How often:
2 times a week.
15.Honey and Shea butter
Although shea butter by itself has all the right properties to promote youthful skin, in this anti-aging face mask, we shall combine raw honey, which has intense hydrating properties and powerful anti-oxidants.
You will need:
- 1 tablespoon shea butter
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- Mix the two ingredients.
- Massage well on your face and neck.
- Leave it for 15-20 minutes.
- Wash with a mild cleanser and warm water.
How often:
3 times a week.

When not to use?
Honey is considered a safe ingredient for the skin. However, you need to be cautious before using it as it may cause some unwanted skin reactions.
- Don’t use honey if you have allergic reactions to pollen, celery, or other bee-related products.
- Don’t use honey overnight. Make sure to remove any honey from your face before you go to bed. Honey left on your face can attract dust and other debris, which could aggravate an active breakout.
Note: Always do a patch test on a small area of your skin that’s minimally visible to see if you’re allergic.
