Aloe vera is the plant of immortality and no stranger in the skincare world. It is known for its umpteen benefits.
Aloe vera gel is the gooey, translucent sap of the plant that is filled with beauty benefits and can rid you of almost all your skin woes. Oily, dry or sensitive, it works it’s magic on every skin type and is a secret to getting spotless, flawless skin. You might even have the thorny plant sitting in your backyard/ home garden and still be unaware of what all it can do for your skin.
Now, that you know aloe vera is the solution to all your skin problems, I’m sure you can’t wait to try the wonder ingredient yourself to see the results. Take a look at the three ways you can use it and add it to your skincare regimen to get healthy, flawless skin.
Use fresh natural aloe vera gel directly on the face

- Cut a piece of aloe vera leaf, cut out thorns on the sides and the top green layer. Make a few cuts in the gel, so you get the maximum gel out of it.
- Rub it from the gel-side on the face avoiding eyes for 5 minutes and rinse with normal water for healthy and flawless skin.
- Do this once daily. (One time a day instead of using face wash or any kind of soap, use a cut piece of aloe to massage your face for 5 minutes and rinse to see the difference.)


Use this(as shown in the picture above) as a bar of soap instead of soap to wash your face once a day.
Alternatively, you can also scrape some fresh sap(gel) from the leaves of the aloe plant using a knife. Gel from a leaf would be enough. Blend it or whisk to make it smooth and apply the mix onto the face and neck with the help of fingers before going to bed. Leave it overnight and wash your face in the morning.


1. DIY aloe vera face mask for oily skin
For oily skin, here is an aloe mask that will help you zap excess oil from your skin and prevent acne.
You will need:
- 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 tbsp Multani mitti (Fuller’s earth)
- Rosewater or cold milk ( as per consistency)
Directions:
- Combine the Multani mitti powder and fresh aloe gel. Add cold milk if you are not sensitive to dairy. If you are, use rose water instead to adjust the consistency of the paste.
- Whisk it into a smooth paste.
- Apply on your cleansed face, let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Apply once or twice a week.
2. DIY aloe vera face mask for dry skin
Turn dry and dull skin into plump and supple one by using the below mentioned 3 ingredients. These 3 ingredients are hydrating agents and when applied on the face, they leave your skin soft and supple.
You will need:
- 1 tbsp aloe vera
- 1 tsp honey
- Few pieces of cucumber
Directions:
- Prepare a face mask using aloe vera gel, honey, and cucumber.
- Blend a few pieces of cucumber, 1 tsp of honey and 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel.
- Apply the mixture on your cleansed face.
- Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off.
- Apply twice a week.
3. DIY aloe vera face mask for normal skin
A face mask made with aloe vera gel and banana is moisturizing and brightening. It works for every type of skin, especially normal and sensitive.
You will need:
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 Banana
Directions:
- Mash one banana into a bowl and add two tablespoons of aloe vera gel.
- Mix well and apply on cleansed face.
- Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Rinse it off with lukewarm water and moisturize.
- Apply once or twice a week.

Note: If you buy a leaf from a store, then store it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. This way, it will last you a couple of weeks.
